Dr. Tameka Arnett Bailey is originally from Gould, Arkansas. She attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) for her undergraduate degree. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Dr. Bailey went on to pursue her PhD at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She was recruited to the University of Arkansas by Dr. Douglas Rhoads, Director of the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Program. Working under Drs. Yinong Yang and Kenneth Korth, Dr. Bailey genetically engineered rice plants for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance. Following the completion of her doctoral education, Dr. Bailey was hired as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at UAPB. Dr. Bailey completed her postdoctoral training at the Eppley Institute and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Hamid Band. Dr. Bailey’s postdoctoral research was supported by a Susan G. Komen fellowship and a National Cancer Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship (T-32). Dr. Bailey is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas. She is currently elucidating the molecular mechanism of triple negative breast cancer brain and liver metastases.
